Does replacing the fire brigade officer even make sense?

The Eching local council discussed this.

In the end, only the mayor voted against the new appointment.

Eching

– There have only been speakers in the Eching local council since the beginning of this electoral period in 2020.

One of them - Tobias Handschuh, FW and consultant for emergency services and fire departments - has now resigned from the local council, the replacement is called Oliver Schlenker (we reported).

The question of who should now fill the vacant position of fire department representative led to the fundamental question at the local council meeting last Tuesday as to whether one should stick to the speaker concept.

The FW parliamentary group suggested that Josef Riemensberger be appointed as a consultant for the rescue services and fire departments - a personality that no one wanted to doubt or shake.

Mayor Sebastian Thaler, however, took this as an opportunity to ask the local councilors whether the speaker concept had proven successful in their eyes.

Echinger faction leaders are clearly in favor of the speaker concept

SPD parliamentary group leader Herbert Hahner clearly spoke out in favor of continuing the speaker concept, ideally expanding it to include the position of a speaker for clubs.

Siglinde Lebich, parliamentary group leader of the Greens, also emphasized that the speaker positions had proven successful because their area of responsibility and role led to “an expansion of knowledge” among the local councils.

The CSU parliamentary group leader Georg Bartl recalled that people were “not enthusiastic” about the introduction of the speaker positions four years ago.

The speaker position for the fire department was viewed particularly critically at the time.

Now, of course, we have “lived with the speakers for four years, so we don't want to make tabula rasa for the last two years of the electoral period,” said Bartl, explaining his group's approval of the proposed resolution.

Thaler does not see the position of fire brigade representative in particular as useful

But the person who did not agree to the replacement of the position of fire brigade consultant was Thaler: Although he considers the concept of working with consultants to be important and correct, the office of fire brigade consultant in particular has changed his mind over the past four years after proven not to be useful.

But his no had nothing to do with Josef Riemensberger as a person.

He hasn't done anything in this role yet.
