The Moosburg section of the Alpine Club has taken on a major task: a new bouldering and climbing facility.

This is a major challenge for the newly formed management team.

Moosburg

– There were big changes in the leadership team at the annual general meeting of the DAV Moosburg section: Long-time chairman Ingolf von Pressentin resigned from his position and was farewelled with a standing ovation by the members.

Before a new board was elected, the members agreed that in future only five instead of the current eight members should belong to the management team.

Torsten Koch, who had previously held the position of youth representative, was finally elected as the new first chairman.

Andrea Weighardt was confirmed as 2nd chairwoman, and the new 3rd chairperson is Peter Schieber.

Treasurer Michael Engelberth will take care of the finances in the future, and Martin Schwaiger is the new youth officer.

Big goal: A bouldering and climbing facility

A lot of work awaits the newly elected management team: “We would like to expand and build a bouldering and climbing facility,” said Torsten Koch in an interview with FT.

The new facility will be built next to the existing clubhouse on the edge of the city forest.

The reason for this measure: “The climbing tower is becoming too small.

We have endless inquiries,” says Koch – the club currently has 2,334 members, making it the largest club in Moosburg.

As a first step, a feasibility study was commissioned.

The result: “We were allowed to build,” summarizes Koch – the nature conservation authority also had no major objections.

“And it would also be possible for us to manage this financially.” Plans will now be drawn up and grant applications submitted in the coming weeks and months before the details are presented to the members.

At a special meeting “sometime next year,” said Koch, members will then decide whether the expansion should be built.

In addition to the sporting aspect, the new building would also have a social advantage: Koch hopes that this would make it possible to “bring together” climbers, boulderers and hikers.

Given that the work will take a lot of time and energy, the association has decided to increase the leadership term from two to three years.

This means that “everyone has time to calm down” without potentially having to change again after two years.

Fees will be increased

At the annual general meeting it was also decided to increase the fees and now also - as has been the case in other sections for a long time - to charge an admission fee - for insurance reasons alone.

But Koch is convinced that the administrative workload that the volunteer members have also justifies such a fee.

The fact that Torsten Koch is now at the top of the DAV in Moosburg was no surprise to many members.

“I’ve been there forever,” he says – as have his wife and three children.

He was also very active in the youth sector.

The jump to the top wasn't far.

Of course, like last year, there will be a lot of sporting activities again this year.

Whether walking, running or climbing, whether indoors or outdoors, whether “marmots” or seniors: there was and is something for everyone in the DAV program this year, as tour leader Hubert Hornung emphasized at the meeting.
