Who can resist them, the fat, cozy, furry hummers?

But not all bumblebees are the same - which is why BUND Nature Conservation is calling on Landsberg to take part in bumblebee monitoring.

With the citizen science project “Bumblebee Challenge” and with the help of the nature observation platform Observation.org, BUND Nature Conservation wants to record bumblebee sightings twice a year and always at the same time in order to find out more about the distribution areas and diversity of bumblebee species and to document changes Katja Holler from the Landsberg district group.

“The sightings from the district complement the data from the nationwide bumblebee research project at the Thünen Institute.”

Taking part in the bumblebee challenge is very easy, says Holler: with the free ObsIdentify app on your smartphone you can “get out into nature and try to photograph as many different bumblebees as possible.”

These can then be determined and saved using the app.

The bumblebees have been reported since March 20th to April 9th and from June 20th to July 3rd.

Whoever finds the most bumblebee species during the project period can win something.

“The bumblebees particularly like to collect pollen and drink nectar here.” In spring, flowering fruit trees and berry bushes are also very popular with the fat bumblebees.
