Three people died in a traffic accident in Emstek in the Cloppenburg district of Lower Saxony.
According to police, eight more people were injured on Sunday, four of them critically and two seriously.
According to the report, a 40-year-old man drove his car into oncoming traffic on Federal Highway 72 on Saturday evening for an initially unknown reason.
Emstek - There he collided head-on with a car and rammed the rear of another.
As a result, the 40-year-old driver, his 25-year-old passenger and the 53-year-old driver of the car with which he collided head-on were fatally injured.
His 49-year-old passenger suffered life-threatening injuries - as did the other passengers of the person who caused the accident, aged 30, 32 and 36.
In the rear of the car, the 45-year-old driver and a 39-year-old passenger were seriously injured, and two other passengers, aged 39 and 14, were slightly injured.
The injured were taken to hospitals.
The B72 was closed for around six hours while the accident was being investigated.
