Wiedenzhausen – The rescue service and fire department had their hands full last Saturday afternoon on Autobahn 8 with two accidents involving a total of four vehicles.

They occurred practically opposite each other on both carriageways.

Accident on A8: Car rolls over several times - driver seriously injured

At around 12.30 p.m., according to the Fürstenfeldbruck Traffic Police Inspectorate (VPI), between the Sulzemoos and Odelzhausen junctions in the direction of Stuttgart, a 60-year-old man from Munich drove his VW Polo off the road to the right, crashed into the guardrail and rolled over several times before the car crashed into the ground Green strip next to the motorway came to a standstill.

The driver was taken to a hospital in a rescue helicopter.

Apparently influenced by the events on the opposite lane, according to the VPI, a traffic jam also developed in the direction of Munich, caused by road users “interested in accidents”.

As a result, two consecutive rear-end collisions occurred around 1:20 p.m.

A 29-year-old Canadian woman was unable to brake in time behind the car of a 19-year-old from the Günzburg district and rear-ended her.

A 21-year-old man from Bonn and his 20-year-old passenger from the Mettmann district were also unable to stop in time and crashed into the Canadian woman's car.

Two people were moderately injured in the accidents, one of whom was flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter.

Due to the helicopter landing, the A8 had to be completely closed for around 40 minutes from around 1:50 p.m.

All vehicles involved were no longer drivable and had to be towed away.

The right lane and the hard shoulder were reopened around 2:30 p.m.

Around 3:30 p.m. all lanes were passable again.

The Feldgeding, Dachau, Sulzemoos and Odelzhausen fire departments were on duty during the accidents.
