A Palestinian family of ten people who fled Gaza two days ago has found a welcome in Polino, a municipality of 200 inhabitants a few kilometers from Terni.
They arrived this afternoon thanks to the "Aiutiamoli a vive" Foundation, after landing at Fiumicino airport on a flight from Cairo.
Among the ten refugees there is also Safwat Alkahlout, 51 years old, a journalist, as he himself says.
"Over there - he explains - we left the worst situation, an incredible war, thousands of victims every day. There is a strong humanitarian crisis, there is a lack of food and medicines".
The journalist arrived in Italy together with his wife Eman, his mother-in-law Fatima and his seven children, the youngest aged 11, the oldest aged 23.
"In the Gaza Strip - underlines Safwat - we are experiencing the toughest situation of always Now I'm happy to be in Italy and to have brought my whole family with me, it was a dream for my children to come to Italy. But now that we are safe, we have another dream and that is for the war to end as soon as possible We want to return to our land and reunite with the friends and relatives we left there.
My job awaits me there and a house to rebuild."
"To achieve peace - explains Safwat - sacrifice is needed, we hope that the Israelis are convinced that the Palestinian people deserve freedom, their rights and their independence. We are in 2024 and the whole world now lives free, except ours Palestinian people because for the Israelis this is an ideological conflict and ideological conflicts are hard to resolve. We must have the courage to say that the Palestinians have the right to live alongside the Israelis with their own independent state."
In Polino the house is made available by the Municipality, with the mayor Remigio Venanzi who welcomed the large family.
At the moment of entering the house the inconsolable crying of the eldest of the group, struck by a moment of nostalgia for her land now far away from her.
