This Friday March 24, Bernard Guetta reacted on the stage of the Grand Jury RTL, Le Figaro, Paris Première, M6, to the attack in Moscow.
“In the eyes of Daesh, Russia is a Western country
,” he declared, specifying that there is no reason not to believe
the
claim of the Islamic State.
While the war in Ukraine drags on, the former correspondent of Le
Monde
in Moscow fears an explosion of the 21 republics of the Russian Federation:
“When we look at the situation, I say to myself with great sadness, Vladimir Putin is to systematically destroy Ukraine but he is in the process of blowing up the Russian federation (...) An explosion of this federation means a civil war lasting several decades on the borders of Europe, Asia and the Middle East"
.
If he does not believe in
“a complete annihilation of the Ukrainian defenses”
, the former journalist fears that Russia will take advantage of the lack of ammunition in the Ukrainian ranks to
“attempt an offensive”
.
Some voices are being raised in the international community to open negotiations with the Kremlin. Bernard Guetta firmly opposed this hypothesis:
“Negotiate what?
Recognize part of the annexation of Ukraine?
It’s up to the Ukrainians to do it and not us
,” before continuing:
“Recognizing these annexations would mean reversing this immense progress that all European countries and the world had made in 1945 and returning to 1000 years of civil war. European.”
On the contrary, the MEP insisted on the need for
“Vladimir Putin to suffer a real defeat, which will make him understand the need to really negotiate”
.
After Emmanuel Macron's controversial statements on the potential sending of Western troops to Ukrainian soil, the winner of the Albert-London prize supported the positions of the head of state:
“If we want to avoid it –
the sending of troops
– we must intimidate Putin, we must certainly not reassure him.
Fear must change sides
,” he declared.
Because in the event of a Russian victory in Ukraine, Bernard Guetta believes that the Russian president would then go
“tickling the borders of the Baltic countries, of Finland, to see the reactions”
of Westerners.
