Highlights: WWF Earth Hour, lights out for the planet - Energia & Energie. Yesterday, at 8.30pm, millions of people around the world gathered for the eighteenth year of Earth Hour. Approximately one and a half million hours have been donated to our planet by citizens in over 180 countries and territories. Lights also turned off at the Colosseum in Rome. Yesterday, at 8.30pm, millions of people around the world gathered for the eighteenth year of Earth Hour, the WWF's global mobilization to protect nature and climate.


    Approximately one and a half million hours have been donated to our planet by citizens in over 180 countries and territories, making it the most important hour for Earth to date.


    "This year's Earth Hour has lit a beacon of hope in an increasingly divided world, bringing together as many people as possible in a movement to fight climate crisis and protect the planet and our health, showing that environmentalism it can be accessible, fun and meaningful,” says Kirsten Schuijt, director general of WWF International.


    Among the monuments, the lights were turned off for an hour at the Sydney Opera, at the Tokyo Tower, in the Chinese landmark of Ordos City, in the National Stadium in Beijing, in the Taipei 101 skyscraper. Sixty minutes of lights out also for the Namsan Tower Seoul, India Gate, London Eye, Brandenburg Gate, Eiffel Tower, Castelode São Jorge, Empire State Building, Niagara Falls, Christ the Redeemer, Maputo Katembe Bridge and Radisson Blu Mozambique.

Lights also turned off at the Colosseum in Rome.


    With the message "+Azioni -Co2: Let's give a future to our future!"

WWF Italy invited citizens, communities and companies to turn off the lights and give an hour for the Earth, with a positive action.

Central event at the Colosseum, but lights also turned off at the Vatican, Quirinale, Palazzo Madama, Palazzo Montecitorio and Palazzo Chigi.

Over 40 local businesses and around 200 municipalities have joined the initiative by turning off symbolic places, squares and monuments.

Among these Ponte Vecchio, Torre di Arnolfo, Piazzale Michelangelo, Basilica of Santa Croce, Abbey of San Miniato and the Duomo in Florence, the Mole Antonelliana in Turin, Piazza SanMarco in Venice, the Temple of Segesta and many others.


    The President of the Republic Medal was awarded at the event.
