Not everyone wanted him to appear at the Leipzig Book Fair.
Leipzig - The singer of the rock band “Frei.Wild”, Philipp Burger, has criticized the culture of discussion in Germany.
“I believe that in today's discussion - especially in Germany - there are people within larger families who no longer talk to each other because they have different opinions,” said the South Tyrol-born artist on Sunday at the Leipzig Book Fair.
However, speaking to one another only brings out “the healthy center,” he said.
“Frei.Wild” is also considered controversial in Germany because of its lyrics.
According to Burger, an unnamed author spoke out against his appearance at the book fair before the event on Sunday.
A large number of people, including many fans, came to his performance.
In his book “Freedom with Scars.
My way from the right to everywhere,” the singer also talks about his exit from the right-wing scene.
In Italy the discussion is different, said Burger.
There are louder discussions there, but then we pat each other on the back and make up.
A different opinion “doesn’t necessarily create enmity,” emphasized the artist.
It is important to recognize people's many experiences and stories.
“That’s the beauty of the world, I think – the diversity.”
In his life, Burger influenced, among other things, the “Tote Hosen”.
Music is an outlet for him, says Burger.
“Sometimes it takes a bang to make you realize what you’ve missed.
If things go wrong, you can fight back - in a figurative sense,” said the singer.
You can also make it “pop” with words.
Born in 1981, Burger grew up in the northern Italian city of Brixen.
As a teenager he was the singer of a right-wing rock band.
In 2001 he founded “Frei.Wild”.
The band also made it into the German charts with their music.
Burger has also released solo albums in the past.
The musician is a trained carpenter.
