The Left is looking forward to the Thuringian state elections in September with concern.

How Ramelow wants to prevent a minority government.

Erfurt - The state elections in Thuringia in September are not under a good star, at least for the Left Party.

Current survey results show that the AfD would be the strongest force.

This is of particular concern to Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left).

Because cooperation with the AfD under Björn Höcke is out of the question for his party.

In view of the complicated situation in the state elections in the fall, Ramelow spoke out in favor of a coalition with the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) and the CDU.

“According to surveys, the combination of the CDU, the Left and the BSW would have a majority of 51 or 52 percent,” Ramelow told the online service “Table.Briefings” on Monday.

This shows “that an effective government would be possible if you have the strength to imagine it.”

“Zero in the mood” for a minority government: CDU has to decide

Ramelow continued that he had “no interest” in a minority government.

The CDU must decide “whether it wants to stick to its policy of exclusion towards the left”.

He criticized the Union's incompatibility decision with the Left Party: "Whoever equates the Left with the AfD is demonizing the Left and trivializing the AfD."

Ramelow went on to say that he had set himself two goals for the state election: “To keep the AfD below thirty percent and to get the Left in first place.” The poll numbers for the AfD worried him.

Current surveys show the AfD in the lead: Ramelow warns of fascism

With regard to the Thuringian AfD regional association and its chairman, he added: “My concern is Björn Höcke.

My concern is fascism.

A party is running that doesn't want a majority in the state parliament.” They only want a third of the seats “so that they can chase the whole baggage ahead of them,” said Ramelow.

A new state parliament will be elected in Thuringia on September 1st.

Current surveys see the AfD as currently the strongest force with 29 to 31 percent.

The CDU is at 20 to 21 percent, the Left at 16 to 18 percent.

According to surveys by the Insa and Infratest dimap institutes, the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance currently achieves 13 and 15 percent respectively.

The SPD and the Greens are in the single digits.
