For almost a year, Orléans has received, without the knowledge of municipal authorities, “around 500 homeless migrants transferred from Paris”.
The revelation was made this Monday March 25 by the mayor of the Loiret prefecture town, Serge Grouard, who expressed his anger during a press conference.
“All this is being done on the sly, it's shocking that people are being moved more or less voluntarily, and it's shocking that the mayor and local elected officials are not informed of anything.
Orléans is not intended to host the crack hill of Paris,” denounces the city councilor.
Alerted by the rumor that migrants would be expelled from the capital to clear space before the hosting of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the services of the City of Orléans, he explained, “have become certain that since May 2023, every three weeks, a bus has transported between 30 and 50 people from Paris to Orléans, irregular migrants and homeless people.
“We are not here to compensate for the powerlessness of the State”
On their arrival, they are taken care of by an association which has entered into an agreement with the State and are housed for three weeks in a hotel since emergency accommodation structures are saturated.
Then, the municipality does not know what happens to them, if they stay, if they go elsewhere, or if they are interned in the brand new administrative detention center.
“We are not here to compensate for the powerlessness of the State.
Instead of proposing solutions, we get rid of the problem.
If they are in an irregular situation, they must leave the territory,” adds the elected official.
Faced with the “evasive” responses provided by state services to the municipality's questions, the mayor decided to contact the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin as well as the department's parliamentarians.
