There has been a drinking fountain in Andechs since World Water Day.

It is the third in the AWA-Ammersee where drinking water is available free of charge.

Andechs

– World Water Day is always an opportunity for AWA-Ammersee to highlight the importance of drinking water with a special campaign.

This year another drinking water fountain was inaugurated.

The third of this type - there is already one in Herrsching and Wörthsee - is now at the monastery car park bus stop and, like the other two, is a free offer for passengers, citizens and monastery visitors.

“It is intended to underline the water utility’s commitment to improving climate resilience,” said AWA board member Maximilian Bleimaier.

At a breakfast with regional products from the water protection areas, Andechs' mayor Georg Scheitz and Shawn Frymire, representative of the Weilheim water management office, were able to test the water from the new drinking fountain.

“When it comes to groundwater protection, our water supplier works closely with farmers and offers them cooperation agreements that reimburse groundwater conservation services that go beyond the legal requirements.

In addition to preserving valuable groundwater, this promotes the cultivation of healthy, regional food,” says Scheitz, who is also chairman of the board of directors of Vierseenland water production.

The wells are becoming increasingly important in times of rising temperatures caused by climate change.

He and Bleimaier agreed on that.

“And the fountains guarantee a high standard of hygiene because they flush themselves and are regularly checked by the AWA-Ammersee,” he assured.
