A successful season lies behind the Wendelstein ring line.

An interesting option was also discussed in the Fischbachau local council: the buses could soon run all year round.

Fischbachau

- The Wendelstein ring line was a well-rounded affair in the 2023 season. At least that's what comes from the statistics that Fischbachau's managing director Felix Stahl has now presented to the local council.

The development of usage figures was particularly pleasing for Fischbachau.

Significantly more bus trips were recorded in all categories.

However, the local councilors were even more interested in another statement by Stahl: In the medium term, the Wendelstein ring line could, in a sense, become a stepping stone to the longed-for bus connection to the Rosenheim district.

But first to the numbers.

274 guests and locals boarded the Ringlinie buses in Fischbachau and traveled up to 25 percent of the route - in 2022 there were 217. 138 passengers traveled 50 percent around Wendelstein (92 in 2022), 54 traveled 75 percent (2022: 26).

At least 42 passengers treated themselves to the entire round (2022: 38).

If you take all nine participating communities together, the number of passengers rose from almost 11,800 in 2022 to 15,750 in 2023. The number of trips grew from 6,250 to 6,820, and ticket revenue doubled from 5,900 to 12,100 euros.

7,760 guest card holders increased, in 2022 there were still 7,300. The number of trips increased from 2,615 to 2,850.

Bayrischzell is the leader in trips

The leader in trips across all categories is Bayrischzell with more than 3,000, followed by Oberaudorf (almost 1,600), Bad Feilnbach (more than 1,200) and Schliersee (a good 800).

The municipalities again shared the total costs of around 44,500 euros proportionally in 2023, with Fischbachau having to bear a good 2,900 euros (6.6 percent).

Bayrischzell paid 37.8 percent, Oberaudorf (21.1 percent), Bad Feilnbach (17.7 percent) and Schliersee (11.1 percent).

“It’s great that things are going up everywhere for us,” said managing director Stahl.

This is by far not the case in all of the municipalities; Oberaudorf is even thinking about leaving the Wendelstein ring line.

Extension to the whole year is conceivable

On the other hand, expanding the offering from the summer season to the whole year is also an issue, reported Stahl.

The idea came about as the district joined the MVV and negotiations could take place in 2025.

“That would be the long-awaited connection to the Rosenheim district,” said Stahl.

However, departure times would also need to be early in the morning to make it possible for use by (professional) students and commuters, noted Andreas Gschwendtner (CSU).

“I will throw myself fully into the negotiations,” promised Stahl.

In any case, the Rosenheim district has shown great interest.

However, the offer would then also have to be put on a new financial footing, because the organization of public transport (so far the ring line is a tourist affair) is, as is well known, a responsibility of the districts.

Willi Rothemund (FWG) had heard that there were also efforts outside the ring line to improve the bus connection from Leitzachtal to Bad Feilnbach.

And the bus line to Kufstein, which was discontinued after a pilot phase, would also be worth reviving, Rothemund thought.
