By bike from Irschenberg to Tegernsee: This is the goal that the Rosenheim State Building Authority has been working on for years.
Of the three critical cycle paths on the route, the first at Wachlehen could be tackled in 2025.
The ones at Riedgasteig and Jedling will probably take a little longer.
An interim report.
District - On the surface, not much has happened in the past few months, but behind the scenes there is a lot of planning going on.
As reported, the state building authority in Rosenheim wants to close the gaps in the cycle path network along federal highway 472.
The goal is a continuous connection from Irschenberg to Miesbach and from there to Gmund on Lake Tegernsee.
But implementation remains complicated due to land negotiations, nature conservation and technology.
The big challenge at Riedgasteig is the steep section.
There is no space for a cycle path between the retaining wall and the slope.
And this is important for safety reasons alone, as the steep incline and the reduced visibility in the curve area pose considerable danger potential for cyclists.
That's why the Rosenheim State Building Authority is planning to create the cycle path behind the retaining wall.
This is the best way to manage the steep incline, explains Matthias Kreuz, who heads the department responsible for the Miesbach district at the State Building Authority.
This variant is currently being planned by an engineering office.
The planned cycle path is intended to close the gap between Miesbach and Irschenberg in the foreseeable future.

Problems include the fauna-flora habitat (FFH area) and the left-turn lane at Riedgasteig.
“But we’ll get this solved,” says Kreuz.
The top of the wall may need to be shortened a little so that it does not protrude too high above the cycle path.
The cycle path should also run along the road at Marksteiner level.
There it is important to get the Möslgraben, which runs parallel, under control.
For safety reasons, three new left-turn lanes will also be added on this occasion, namely to Riedgasteig, Marksteiner and Staudinger opposite the confluence with Riedgasteig.
Overall, according to Kreuz, a lot of coordination is necessary, especially with nature conservation and the water management office.
Once the planning is finalized and coordinated, the necessary land negotiations follow.
Temporary bridge in the FFH area
The second open spot is Jedlinger Berg.
Here too, the gap should be closed – if the necessary space can be obtained.
According to Kreuz, discussions are already underway here.
The need to rebuild the Leitzach Bridge near Schwaig is also problematic.
According to Kreuz, a temporary bridge is needed here during the construction period, but that is not so easy to implement in the FFH area.
However, there is good news about the third gap.
It is located between the two Miesbach districts of Wachlehen and Müller am Baum, also on the B 472. The subsoil report is already underway here, and the technical process will then be clarified.
The affected property owners have already signaled their general willingness.
Special difficulties with guard fiefdoms
According to Kreuz, it is already clear that we have to work with specialist companies and offices on this steep slope.
“A special construction is required here.” And the two bridges over the Mangfall must also be replaced, also with two temporary bridges, which in turn requires the consent of the property owners.
In addition, there is a crossing aid on the B 472, then the cycle path is free from Irschenberg via Thalmühl to the Stachus in Gmund am Tegernsee.

Earliest start 2025
The regional department manager is confident that the ambitious project can start as early as 2025 if everything goes according to plan and without incident.
“But that is an optimistic view that we would like to see,” says Kreuz.
2026 is probably more realistic – especially for Wachlehen given the technical challenge.
Another uncertainty factor is the clearing work along the B 472 near Riedgasteig/Marksteiner, which must be completed by the end of February for nature conservation reasons.
If this does not succeed, this construction would also be postponed to 2026.
