Florida will have one of the most restrictive laws in the United States regarding minors' access to social networks — if it resists the legal challenges that are expected — after Republican Governor Ron DeSantis signed a controversial bill this Monday. .
The new law prohibits minors under 14 from having social media accounts, and requires those aged 15 and 16 to ask their parents for permission before opening them.
The new law was Republican House Speaker Paul Renner's top legislative priority.
It will go into effect on January 1
, if a court does not stop it sooner.
