The vocational school for nursing at the clinic prepares nursing trainees for emergencies - recently with a simulation doll.

The new skills lab was only made possible through donations.

Starnberg

– Crying, coughing, getting pain – the new simulation doll for training nurses at the Starnberg Clinic can do it all.

As part of the open day, the doll was presented in the so-called skills lab.

“The opening of the Skills Lab is a special day for us.

The teachers and students can now take completely different paths,” said school principal Daniela Matzke.

In the fully equipped patient room, the students practice various case studies on the mannequin.

From another room she watches the teacher who can control the doll.

“This allows us to see how students deal with stressful situations.

It's good if they make mistakes, learn from them and it doesn't happen again in reality," said Matzke.

In practical terms, the doll provides answers to your well-being in the form of a sound or a change in vital signs.

All of this can be controlled either from the monitoring room or directly on site via a tablet.

However, the electronic doll cannot be washed.

To do this, they continue to use the analogue doll.

“The dolls complement each other,” says Matzke.

The electronic doll transforms quickly as it can be dressed in different wigs and its sexual organs can be swapped.

Project leader Claudio Torremante used the doll to emphasize that the students could use it to break down ethical and moral obstacles and fears of contact.

“This gives them more routine,” says the project manager.

According to Matzke, the doll should, if possible, be used in practical courses throughout the entire training period.

First of all, teachers need further training.

Broad training

At the inauguration, District Administrator Stefan Frey was visibly impressed by the Skills Lab.

It is a “certificate of a great facility”.

Matzke hopes that she will soon be able to set up a children's room with a child's doll.

It is important to practice in all age groups.

Finally, it is also possible to complete pediatric nursing training at the Starnberg Clinic school.

Trainee Laura Tafertshofer chose this pediatric specialization: “I moved from Weilheim to Starnberg because I wanted to do training for children.”

The Friends of the Starnberg Clinic, the Friends of the Seefeld Clinic and the Werner Reichenberger Foundation made it possible to set up the Skills Lab with financial support.

The 22 second-year trainees organized the open day.

In addition to introducing the skills lab, they provided information about their training and introduced first aid and resuscitation as well as child and elderly care.

Matzke reported: “Due to the open day, some students always come to us later.

Today we were able to distribute two acceptance letters and conduct job interviews.” It is important to her that they can attract young people from the region.

Student Theresa values her training very much: “Through the training we all matured very quickly and grew in personality.” (sp)
