Town hall boss Klaus Heilinglechner made the comments at an information event organized by the citizens' association about the Wolfratshausen district clinic.

Heilinglechner assumes that “there is still a discussion to be expected in the district council.”

Wolfratshausen – Nobody can currently say what the future of the Wolfratshausen district clinic will look like.

The main reason: The hospital reform initiated by Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) is still not in the clear.

It is currently planned that the draft law will be approved by the Federal Cabinet on April 24th.

One thing is certain: the reform will seriously change the hospital landscape in Germany.

Lauterbach's concept envisages, among other things, that staff be concentrated in larger clinics and that quality increases through specialization in rural health facilities.

Future of the Wolfratshausen district clinic: Mayor expects “discussion in the district council”

In his opinion, the Wolfratshausen district clinic is currently in a “good position,” said Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner (BVW) recently at an information evening organized by the citizens’ association in the Flößerei inn.

This year the company needs an investment grant of eight million euros, including 1.5 million euros for the obstetric department on Moosbauerweg.

The Starnberg Hospital has been operating a branch of its obstetrics ward there since July 2019; in 2018, the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district committed to covering deficits arising at the Wolfratshausen location up to a maximum of 1.5 million euros annually.

You can read all the news from Wolfratshausen here.

Just a few days ago, the government of Upper Bavaria announced that the district would receive one million euros retroactively for 2022 to compensate for the deficit.

The money comes from funds from the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care - the district is entitled to it because "the criteria of the Bavarian obstetric guidelines were met" in 2022, explains the district authority's press spokeswoman, Marlis Peischer.

In terms of operational business, the clinic “cannot stay afloat on its own”

Looking at the balance sheets of municipal clinics in the districts of Starnberg, Weilheim-Schongau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mayor Heilinglechner states that the Wolfratshausen district clinic has “a very low deficit”.

During the discussion evening, however, he made no secret of the fact that clinics like the one in Loisachstadt “cannot stay afloat in their operational business on their own.”

Heilinglechner assumes that “there is still a discussion to be expected in the district council.”

With regard to emergency care, we need two clinics.

Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner with a view of the Wolfratshausen district clinic and the Asklepios city clinic in Bad Tölz

District Administrator Josef Niedermaier (Free Voters), personally chairman of the supervisory board of the Wolfratshausen district clinic gGmbH, has recently repeatedly called for a “willingness to change”.

He calls for a “clean, honest discussion” about health care in the district.

Niedermaier believes it is urgently necessary to find a “strategic partner” for the facility on Moosbauerweg.

The healthcare system is facing a complete upheaval; legal regulations and quality requirements for clinics are increasing.

On the other hand, financing so-called sole hospitals such as the Wolfratshausen district clinic is becoming increasingly difficult.

Health system “a prime example of German bureaucracy”

It is more important than ever that both clinics in the district – the one in Wolfratshausen and the Asklepios city clinic in Bad Tölz – “work better together,” said Heilinglechner.

“We need two clinics with a view to emergency care,” stated the mayor.

Heilinglechner took the citizens to task because “the patients vote with their feet,” which means: “Where can I get treatment?” It is not uncommon for the district clinic’s proximity to the maximum care providers in Munich to be “doomed.”

“The health system has become extremely complicated in recent years,” said the mayor.

It is “a prime example of German bureaucracy”.

In his efforts to maintain the district clinic, he “sometimes” lacks support “from other municipalities in the northern district,” he regretted.

The city of Geretsried explicitly excluded Heilinglechner: “My counterpart Michael Müller is on the same track with me.” (cce)
