The two-story building measuring 26 by 12.5 meters is to be built right next to the old station. The need to move is due to the miserable condition of the old mountain rescue facilities and the water rescue service's lack of its own domicile. “We are happy that we now have a really nice construction site,” joked Mayor Müller. The project not only serves the community and its citizens, but also everyone who is in need.

It's done: Construction work for a new rescue building in Kochel am See began with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony on Friday.

The joint mountain and water rescue station should be in place this year.

Until then, however, both the water and mountain rescue services will have to raise enormous amounts of money.

The community bears the lion’s share.

In addition, the project is financed through LEADER, an EU program of measures to promote innovative actions in rural areas.

March 22nd was a big day - not just for the local mountain rescue service and the water rescue service, of which around 50 active people came.

The chairmen of the local action group (LAG) Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Benediktbeuern's mayor Anton Ortlieb (BBV), Kochl town hall boss Jens Müller (UWK), the architects Hans and Michaela Eizensberger and Gwendolin Dettweiler from SWECO GmbH also celebrated the start of construction.

“We are happy that we now have a really nice construction site,” joked Mayor Müller.

The project not only serves the community and its citizens, but also everyone who is in need.

Its importance “radiates beyond Kochel into the region”.

There were problems with a cable and an excavator on the first day, but “all the conditions are now met so that we can achieve the noble goal of completion by the end of this year,” said the head of the Kochl town hall.

The two-story building measuring 26 by 12.5 meters is to be built right next to the old station.

The need to move is due to the miserable condition of the old mountain rescue facilities and the water rescue service's lack of its own domicile.

The helipad is to be moved just a few meters to the east.

“We are glad that we have the space at this location because from there we can always keep an eye on our operational area and therefore also the weather conditions,” informed Toni Geiger, head of the mountain rescue service.

The new rescue building of the Kochel mountain and water rescue service is scheduled to be largely completed this year

The planning began five years ago.

The costs of the new building are now estimated at around two million euros.

Almost 670,000 euros come from Leader funding.

The construction project falls into the so-called second funding phase, which ends at the end of this year.

“In concrete terms, this means that all invoices must be submitted by December 31st,” explained Anton Simmeth, local group leader of the Wasserwacht, to the Rundschau.

The settlement will take place six months later, on June 30, 2025.

The municipality of Kochel is contributing 800,000 euros.

The rest – at least 530,000 euros – has to be raised together by the water rescue service and the mountain rescue service.

“299,000 euros falls on us mountain rescuers,” informed Geiger, head of the mountain rescue service.

“We have already brought together part of it, we still have to acquire the other part.” We are also hoping for donations.

The water rescue service isn't faring any better.

She has to spend a little less - 235,000 euros - because her space requirements are smaller.

According to BRK district manager Andreas Schäfer, the local water rescue service has been promised 160,000 euros.

There is still a lack of 75,000 euros, “which we also have to raise through donations and campaigns,” says local group leader Simmeth.

Gwendolin Dettweiler represented SWECO GmbH at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The company supports the LAG in administrative processing and provides advice.

“I’m totally impressed by how many people are at the groundbreaking ceremony today,” praised the engineer.

The funding also serves to bring people together and strengthen them, a concern that she sees as more than fulfilled.

In addition, in view of the many young active people, the project stands for practical nature conservation and the promotion of young people alongside the rescue operations.

“If not the project, then which one should we support,” summarized Dettweiler in an almost missionary way.
