At a CSU event, a discussion broke out about what the culture in Erding is actually like.

Opinions differ.

Erding – The city of Erding has the town hall, the museum, the steel collection, the town library and the House of Meetings.

And it organizes folk music days in spring and jazz days in late autumn.

Quite a lot, one would think.

But for some it's still too little or too monotonous.

This became clear yesterday at the CSU regulars' table.

Ludwig Kirmair (CSU) presented the city's cultural commitment - with a total of 2.6 million euros in the current budget.

Party colleague Arnold Kronseder, who is also chairman of the CSU Seniors' Union, interjected in the debate that the focus on jazz and folk music bothered him.

Instead, the city should give more space to popular music and leave the niche styles behind.

Austro-pop in particular is very popular.

Wolfgang Miedl, who also believes that Erdinger's offerings are not particularly diverse, echoed the same sentiments.

He referred to the E3-Keller and the Jakobmayer in Dorfen, which were very popular.

“There is nothing like that in Erding.

There is a lack of opportunities for the subculture.”

Kirmair pointed out that “this had already happened before in Erding”.

But both the city theater and the Blaue Wunder concert night would have ceased to exist due to a lack of response.

In addition, the former second mayor continued, there is no need for urban competition.

“I also like to go to Dorfen to experience culture there. Not everyone has to have everything,” he said, also with regard to the (cabaret) stage in the Klement Hall in Isen.

Regarding popular Austro-pop, he commented: “Whatever is financially self-sustaining also happens, for example in the town hall.”

JU chairman Uwe Lallinger, a member of the party band Tetrapack, said: “We don’t actually have the time for any more performances.” He remembered the concerts in the past at the youth center on Dorfener Strasse.

However, Kirmair agreed to take the criticism of the Jazz Days with him to the cultural office; perhaps the program could be adapted.

He was fundamentally pleased that culture in Erding had left the deep Corona valley with a complete standstill and that normality had returned.

It is also good that in the old town study, only two percent of the more than 1,000 respondents said they were dissatisfied with the cultural offerings in Erding.

According to Kirmair, the effects of the pandemic are still evident in the town hall, especially in its gastronomic offerings.

“The problem with running the kitchen yourself is that it is a restaurant that is not always open.” The departure of the multi-flexible caterer Stangl was the “worst case”.

Nevertheless, the town hall, which will soon be 40 years old, is in good shape.

There is always talk about their deficit, says Kirmair, but the other cultural institutions are also subsidy businesses.

But it’s worth it for the city.

He praised the city library's character as a meeting place that more and more students are visiting to learn in peace.

The museum is no longer a “static house”.

On the contrary: readings, concerts and special exhibitions attracted visitors again and again.

The branch in Klettham is even open on Sundays.

According to him, the Frauenkircherl on Schrannenplatz is very popular as a gallery because it is so close to the center.

And thanks to the extension currently under construction, the Steel Museum will also be a cultural contact point, just like the House of Encounters on Rätschenbach.
