By January 2025 all 22 middle schools in Bologna will also remain open in the afternoon.
"Today they close at 2pm, next school year they will close at 5pm", explains school councilor DanieleAra.
It is one of the 10 activities of "Radically Adolescents", the document presented to the Comprehensive 12 institute (where the afternoon opening was tested), which reports the municipal administration's strategy for and with adolescents, and which provides for new actions and services addressed to them.
In all, it is an investment of 10 million euros: not only schools open in the afternoon, but also new and more qualified spaces for teenagers, support for the educational community, creation of a real representation of teenagers as a sort of permanent assembly of young people and girls, digital educational projects.
These five actions will be accompanied by five others in the socio-health, sporting, cultural and organizational fields: promoting autonomy in young people and support for parenting, carrying out prevention and health promotion actions, promoting physical activities, supporting cultural welfare for adolescents and young people, finally consolidating and structure alliances between local actors.
"In our mandate program we were committed to implementing a new policy dedicated to adolescents and families - underlines the mayor Matteo Lepore - Today we present the result of 2 years of work, meetings and listening in schools. The objective is to prevent dropping out of school, engaging kids, involving them, making them feel passionate about life, about their community, about the things that happen in the world".
In particular, for the project to open schools in the afternoon, which involves all lower secondary schools and male and female students aged 11 to 14, 3.5 million euros of European funds are being made available.
The aim is to carry out study, socio-cultural and sporting support activities aimed at adolescents and families with the aim of promoting scholastic and educational success, sociality and continuous training.
