TikTok Youth Council is made up of young people aged between 15 and 18 from different communities and countries, who met for the first time in December 2023 and discussed the importance of educational initiatives and media literacy campaigns.

They also set out priorities for 2024, which include a focus on teen wellbeing and inclusion, to ensure the platform continues to be a safe and accessible space for young people.

The launch of the new project comes in conjunction with the new global study conducted by YouGov in collaboration with TikTok which also includes 2 thousand Italian teenagers between 13 and 17 years old and their parents.

The analysis shows that 71% of children and 76% of parents want greater collaboration with digital platforms.

61% of adolescents and 58% of parents support inclusive decision-making forums.

The study reveals that the majority of families talk about online safety at least once a week.

However, Italian teenagers admit that they do not feel comfortable addressing certain conversations such as bullying (in 22% of cases), body image (39%) and time spent with the smartphone (31%).

It is easier for parents to discuss discrimination (56%), religion (54%), alcohol and substance abuse (51%) and bereavement (34%) than online safety.

To encourage more people to connect with support tools, TikTok will display a link to the Family Connection menu to every new member of the community over the age of 35 when they sign up for the first time.
