North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected a tank unit that invaded Seoul during the Korean War (1950-1953) and called for intensifying preparations for combat, state media reported Monday.
Inter-Korean relations are at an all-time low and earlier this year Pyongyang named South Korea its
"main enemy"
and threatened war for any violation of its territory
"even by 0.001 millimeter »
.
Kim Jong Un visited the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su 105th Armored Division on Sunday, the official
KCNA
news agency said , and state media showed him reviewing plans they said would aim to attack South Korea.
"The division was the first to rush toward Seoul and raise the flag of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the puppet capitol building,"
KCNA
said
.
This tank unit
"performed remarkable feats in many battles during the last Fatherland Liberation War
," the news agency added.
“Very satisfied” with the level of preparation of tank crews
The two countries have technically still been at war since 1953 because it was an armistice and not a peace treaty that ended their three-year armed conflict.
Kim Jong Un oversaw the unit's exercise and said he was
"very satisfied"
with the level of preparation of the tank crews and their
"strong desire to annihilate the enemy,"
KCNA
said
.
The leader also called for more
"ideological education"
to help soldiers go
"further in war preparations and strengthen their combat capacity
. "
Kim Jong Un visited the tank unit's cafeteria and supervised the soldiers' meal, as the country appears to face food shortages.
Supervisors should
“always pay great attention to improving the diet of military personnel”
to
“ensure the regular supply of meat, vegetables and various foodstuffs in a timely manner
,” he said.
