Raced to second place: Marcel Schrötter (center) worked his way up to second place in the WorldSSP with two races at the CatalanWorldSBK in Barcelona.

Marcel Schrötter from Pflugdorf almost reached the top podium and celebrated a long overdue first triumph in the Supersport World Championship in Barcelona.
But only almost.
On Saturday, Schrötter still had problems in the great heat: "Due to the duels at the start, the lead was quickly lost and I had no reserves to go faster, let alone catch up." Things went much better on Sunday, also thanks to the rain and thus lower temperatures Temperatures: In the afternoon, the MV Agusta driver delivered a fantastic performance, although he skipped the warm-up because of the wet track.

However, the race had to be interrupted due to a red flag.
Schrötter was in a promising position in third place. For the restart, the distance was shortened to six laps and the Pflugdorfer needed one lap to find his rhythm in the hustle and bustle of the start.
But he went on the offensive from the second lap until he was able to take the lead - in hindsight, a lap too early: “With the red flag and the sprint race over six laps, in which everyone drives at the last minute, it was very bitter to have missed victory so narrowly,” Schrötter regrets after the race.
On the home straight, Stefano Manzi (Italy) overtook him from the slipstream.
“It's a shame that I attacked a lap too early because I think I could have brought it home.” That's why the outcome of the race was extremely bitter.
Second place is definitely acceptable for the motorcycle racer.
“The most important thing is that we finished both races on the podium again.”
The 31-year-old from Pflugdorf is looking forward to the third round of the season in Assen, Netherlands, from April 19th to 21st.
The Italian Yari Montella (Ducati) is currently in first place with four points ahead of Schrötter.
