Four months before the Paris Olympics, is France ready in terms of security?

If this sword of Damocles has hung over the government for several months, the Islamist attack which left at least 139 dead in a Moscow concert hall on Friday evening, reminiscent of those perpetrated in 2015 in France, has revived concerns.

This is why the country has been on maximum alert since Sunday evening in the face of the threat of attacks;

the jihadist group which ordered this attack being, according to the authorities, at the origin of

“several attempts”

recently on French soil.

Monday evening, the Minister of the Interior recalled that the terrorist threat

“was very high”

throughout the West.

During his interview, Gérald Darmanin separated the terrorist threat into two: the endogenous,

“the main threat, “among us”, people who watch jihadist content and who take action”;

and the exogenous,

“from the outside, like the Bataclan, like this attack in Russia”

,

“in full resurgence”,

and which shows its

“effectiveness”

in Moscow.

“This order from the outside by the inside, by particular communities, we must pay particular attention to it,”

thundered the Minister of the Interior.

“Trigger attacks remotely”

“The Islamic State is now capable of launching attacks remotely.

(...) What we understand from the attack in Russia is that people outside, in other countries, were able to give orders to people inside a country to take action,”

also detailed a particularly worried Gérald Darmanin.

As the Olympic Games approach, France receives a lot of information every week.

And

“thwarts many attacks, one every two months.”

A little earlier, the head of government, Gabriel Attal, traveling to Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris, specified that two attack plans had been

“foiled”

in France since the start of the year.
