In addition to major road construction projects such as the renovation of Bahnhofstrasse East, the municipality of Gräfelfing also wants to partially renovate a number of other streets this year.

Some of the projects are so extensive that the total costs exceed 1.5 million euros.

Gräfelfing -

What the Gräfelfing Building Committee's agenda euphemistically called "road maintenance measures" would lead to lengthy debates elsewhere - and blow up the budget.

In Gräfelfing, these maintenance measures will total around 1.54 million euros in 2024 and have now been recommended to the local council.

The majority of the costs, 980,000 euros, are taken up by the planned work on Steinkirchner Straße.

It is to be renovated between the Stefanusstrasse junction and the Planegg town limits as well as in the section between Bahnhofstrasse and Grawolfstrasse.

The area between Grawolfstrasse and Rottenbucher Strasse, which is also in need of repair, will be completed as part of the renovation of Rottenbucher Strasse South-West.

First, the Würmtal special purpose association is digging up Steinkirchner Straße in order to replace the water pipe.

It consists of gray cast iron pipes from 1900, the birth time of the villa settlement around Gräfelfingen train station, which, according to Mayor Peter Köstler, “lasted a long time”.

Above all, in the areas to be renovated, the road including the base layer as well as the sidewalks should be renewed and damaged and sunken curbs should be replaced.

The avenue trees receive new substrate for better ventilation and nutrient supply.

The entire junction area of Stefanusstrasse will be newly laid out, the central island will be significantly reduced in size or completely eliminated and the street will be narrowed there.

The parking bay on the left side towards Planegg, which the Würmtal-Zweckverband previously used to discharge wastewater into the canal, is also to be dismantled because it is no longer needed.

240,000 euros are earmarked for work on Maria-Eich-Straße.

“Both the roadway and, in some places, the water flow and curbs are in poor condition in some areas of Maria-Eich-Straße,” said the building authority’s submission to the meeting.

Road safety is no longer guaranteed in these sections.

Therefore, a thorough renovation of the roadway area as well as a repair of damaged drainage channels and curbs are planned.

The street Am Haag in the Lochhamer Schlag commercial area needs a revision of the sidewalks, curbs and water flow (195,000 euros).

According to the administration, traffic safety is no longer guaranteed here either.

This is particularly the case in the area of the entrances due to heavy goods and delivery traffic.

Here the administration suggested a resilient asphalt surface for the access areas.

Martin Feldner (Greens) opposed this.

His argument: Then the privileged sidewalks, which are paved with paving slabs, are intersected by asphalt strips, which falsely suggest that cars have the right of way over pedestrians.

The mayor and administration gave in and agreed to build the driveways with durable, twelve-centimeter-thick concrete paving slabs.

And finally, the paved paths in the cemetery that have not yet been renovated are to be covered with mastic for around 125,000 euros.
