The DFB changes the supplier - and thus triggers an earthquake throughout Germany.

Markus Söder cannot escape this either.

Munich – The DFB’s decision to change supplier continues to make waves.

From 2027, it was decided that the German national teams will no longer wear Adidas jerseys, but rather Nike jerseys.

According to reports, the German Football Association will receive significantly more money for this - Nike therefore pays approximately twice as much as its competitor Adidas.

However, many people, from politicians to fans, criticize that Adidas, as the traditional supplier of the DFB national teams, is worth more than higher income.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder agreed with this opinion.

Söder sharply criticizes the DFB's change of supplier - and calls for more "straightforwardness"

The CSU boss wrote on X during the week that German football has always been a piece of German economic history.

And that the national team plays in three stripes.

“The success story began in 1954 with the unforgettable World Cup victory, which gave our country self-confidence again.

“That’s why it’s wrong, a shame and also incomprehensible that this story should end now,” Söder wrote in the article.

In addition to numerous other politicians, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder also expressed his opinion in the discussion about the new DFB supplier.

The self-confessed Nuremberg fan then criticized the events behind the scenes that led to the DFB's decision: “German football is pure home - and not a pawn in international corporate battles.

Commerce isn't everything.

The DFB would have benefited from more straightforwardness despite all the economic challenges.” But Söder subsequently had to listen to clear criticism for his contribution.

Sports journalist counters Söder – since when has Germany been playing in Adidas jerseys?

This is how the sports journalist and founder of the football magazine “11 Freunde” Philipp Köster reacted to Söder’s post and wrote sarcastically: “At the 1954 World Cup, the German team played in jerseys from the Pfullingen company G. & A. Leuze.

But of course you don’t have to know that as Bavarian Prime Minister.”

The fact is: In fact, the DFB selection did not play in Adidas jerseys at the Miracle in Bern.

Adidas was, as the company also writes on its own website, a “sports shoe factory” until 1967.

With the interchangeable screw studs on Adidas shoes, Germany won the World Cup title in 1954 - but Adidas only appeared as a clothing brand 13 years later with the “Franz Beckenbauer tracksuit”.

It was "adidas' first clothing product and opened up a completely new business area for the company, which until then had only been famous for shoes," writes Adidas.

However, it took a while before Germany actually played in Adidas jerseys, as the company initially provided training jackets and other equipment.

After jerseys from Umbro and Erima, the German national team only wore the iconic three stripes on their jersey from 1980.

Heated discussion breaks out on X – is the sports journalist right?

On X, a heated discussion broke out in the comments about whether Köster was right to criticize the Bavarian Prime Minister or not.

One user wrote: “In 1954, the German team won the title because of the revolutionary Adidas cleats.

But of course you don't have to know as a football reporter." Köster replied: "As Julian Böhm, you can also ignore the fact that this is about the jersey supplier and that the national players can still wear Adidas shoes."

Somewhere both are probably right;

On the one hand, Adidas was already supplying the German national team in 1954, but on the other hand, it took a long time before the company from Herzogenaurach also supplied the DFB team's jerseys.

The new DFB jerseys from Adidas have just caused a lot of excitement, and shortly afterwards the next excitement will come with the change of supplier - let's hope that the players don't let this upset them and on Saturday evening, March 23rd , made a successful start to the home European Championship year against France.
