She is the longest-living woman in Sardinia and fourth in the ranking of Italy's supercentenarians, i.e. the list that brings together ultracentenarians still alive and resident in Italy with a minimum age of 107 years.

Amelia Addari, born on March 25, 1912, turns 112 today.

In front of her a Sicilian, a Campanian and a Romagna, the latter 113 and a half years old.

There are 6 Sardinian supercentenarians in total, all women: the youngest is 107 years old.

She was born in Genoni, a town of less than 800 inhabitants in Sarcidano (Southern Sardinia), to a wealthy family, she has always lived between Cagliari and Nuragus (also Southern Sardinia), where she resides today.

She has never worked and has never married and today she lives surrounded by the affection of her grandchildren and her entire community, after the death of her sister, which occurred in 2020 at the age of 110.

"For us it is a source of pride to have Mrs Addari as a fellow citizen in our town - Mayor Giovanni Daga told ANSA - Nuragus is not new to the presence of centenarians, so much so that investigations were carried out to understand if the citizen could become part of the Blue zone".

There are currently only five Blue Zones identified in the world and two are in the center of Sardinia, Barbagia and Ogliastra, where people live longer than in other parts of the Earth.

"Miss" Amelia's birthday is today but her family is keen to preserve it and her grandchildren will celebrate it privately on the day.

"I will go tomorrow to wish her best wishes from the whole community and I will bring her flowers", specifies mayor Daga.

Before she turned 100, Amelia Addari was still seen crossing the road on her way to the nearby parish church, today she is cared for by three carers who look after her morning, evening and night.

"She is still lucid. She never wanted to go to a facility - says the first citizen - and I am sure that tomorrow she will ask me many questions about what the administration is doing for young people and the church, her main interests, in addition to that for the theatre. When he was younger, in fact, he went to Cagliari to watch shows".
