The Wolfratshausen building committee voted against two pedestrian lights 50 meters apart on Sauerlacher Straße and rejected the citizens' proposal.

Wolfratshausen – At Sauerlacher Straße 25, specifically at the level of the new Edeka market or the new Loisachquartier on the property of the former Kraft building materials store, a Wolfratshausen resident would like to have a pedestrian traffic light.

His proposal, which received a majority at the citizens' meeting in the Loisachhalle in mid-December, was now on the agenda of the city council's building committee.

Skepticism prevailed in the expert committee.

Second traffic light on Sauerlacher Straße?

In the opinion of the citizen, there is a high risk of accidents in this area for pedestrians and cyclists who want to cross Sauerlacher Straße.

However, they can only do this a few meters away at the western level crossing - but according to the applicant, this push-button traffic light could be dispensed with.

The police view the request “very critically,” reported town hall boss Klaus Heilinglechner (BVW) at the building committee meeting.

City hall employee Wolfgang Mucha from the civil engineering department pointed this out to the city councilors in the meeting submission: “Currently, opportunities for improvement in the area of widening on Sauerlacher Straße for all road users are being examined by the traffic authorities.” The creation of a pedestrian crossing over Sauerlacher Straße at the level of Edeka market is “included”.

According to the city administration's observations, the existing pedestrian traffic lights at the track crossing are very heavily used.

On the one hand, this is due to the naturally high volume of pedestrians at the S-Bahn station, but "also results from the footpath and cycle path that continues southwards directly at the level crossing," says Mucha.

There is also a safe crossing option for students on the way west from the S-Bahn station to the secondary school.

Mucha: “From our point of view, the abolition of the pedestrian traffic light is therefore not recommended under any circumstances.” As justification, he made it clear that the existing pedestrian crossing at the level crossing “is only about 50 meters away from Edeka, i.e. in the immediate vicinity of the close, safe and signalized crossing.”

Mucha's last argument that speaks against an additional second pedestrian crossing: the flow of traffic on the busy Sauerlacher Straße would “certainly be inhibited”.

There was no need for discussion in the committee.

Alone city councilor Dr.

Hans Schmidt (Greens) stated that two pedestrian crossings around 50 meters apart would be “insane”.

The technical committee unanimously rejected the application.
