On Thursday, the first storm of the year swept across large parts of Bavaria.

In Egling, the fire department was able to prevent something worse from happening.

Egling / Landsberg am Lech – Hopefully that wasn’t a foretaste of the rest of the year.

Because the first storm of 2024 caused devastation in two places in Bavaria.

While a storm swept over an industrial area in Landsberg am Lech, lightning struck the roof of a residential building in Egling - fortunately the resident was not at home at the time.

Thunder, lightning, sleet showers – the storm boiled over Landsberg am Lech on Thursday afternoon, March 21st.

“Due to a strong storm, the roof of a building in the Landsberg industrial area at Frauenwald was lifted and torn off the building,” the police wrote in their press report.

A storm caused some devastation in the Free State on Thursday.

According to

ausgburger- Allgemeine.de,

it was a storm that tore the roof and photovoltaic system off a house.

The responsible city fire inspector spoke to the newspaper about the trail of devastation that the event left behind.

Parts of the roof and the photovoltaic system were still flying through the air and damaging neighboring buildings and cars.

The police write: “The Landsberg fire brigade was on site with strong forces, removed rubble and sealed damaged buildings.

According to current knowledge, no one was injured, but significant property damage can be assumed.”

Lightning strike in Egling - smoldering fire and uninhabitable house resulting

In the Endlhausen district of Englingen, lightning also struck a residential building on Oberbiberger Straße as part of the storm on Thursday.

Heavy smoke alerted neighbors, who in turn called the fire department.

The emergency services were then able to prevent anything worse from happening.

The lightning strike caused a voltage surge, which caused a light bulb to detach from the ceiling - it fell down and set a bed on fire, as the fire department reports.

The fire department took charge of the matter and was able to extinguish the smoldering fire.

However, there was material damage of around 20,000 euros - the upper floor is also covered in soot and will probably be uninhabitable for the time being.

But the resident was lucky in misfortune - the man, who is a member of the Munich fire department, was working in the forest at the time of the lightning strike.
