In Sellano, in the heart of the Umbrian Valnerina, the highest Tibetan bridge in Europe was inaugurated with its 175 meters dividing it from the valley floor.
For a length of 517.5 meters and 1,023 steps, with an estimated journey time of 30-45 minutes.
In addition to the institutional authorities, the entire local community participated in the ribbon cutting, but also many curious people who came to Sellano from neighboring municipalities, both Umbria and the Marche.
"The Tibetan bridge of Sellano is a virtuous example of investment to revitalize this territory also on the tourism front", underlined the regional councilor for Umbrian tourism, Paola Agabiti.
"This community - he added - despite having been put to the test by the 2016 earthquake, has demonstrated a great attachment to the territory and citizens and businesses have continued to live and invest in the place where they were born and in which they reside, demonstrating of strong resilience".
For the mayor of Sellano Attilio Gubbiotti, "the strategic objective of this work is the development of a thematic tourist offer capable of extending the stay of visitors in the area, proposing other places less contaminated by mass tourism such as the small villages of Valnerina and Menotre, including Sellano".
"The Tibetan bridge system - added the mayor - will provide employment with the possibility of opening new businesses".
The president of the Legislative Assembly of Umbria, Marco Squarta, the extraordinary commissioner for post-earthquake reconstruction, Guido Castelli and the Umbrian cashmere entrepreneur, Brunello Cucinelli, also took part in the inauguration.
