The municipal steering group “Fairtrade” in Wolfratshausen calls for the purchase of controlled-traded chocolate bunnies and coffee - and explains why.

Wolfratshausen – Easter is just around the corner, and for many families this includes the fun Easter egg hunt.

Against this background, the “Fairtrade” steering group calls for “to make Easter fair”.

The rafting town has been decorated with the “Fairtrade Town” seal since 2019.

The municipality has to earn this award again and again.

The city council is committed to promoting fair trade; the city must consistently and verifiably ensure that its consumer behavior takes into account “fair production conditions as well as socially and environmentally friendly manufacturing and trading structures in developing countries”.

“Whether it's chocolate bunnies, nougat eggs or marzipan figures - this year when we're shopping for Easter, we're going to buy products with a Fairtrade seal,” appeals Annette Heinloth to the people of Wolfratshausen.

The third mayor is head of the steering group.

With conscious purchasing behavior, “we not only make ourselves and those around us happy, but also contribute to greater fairness at the beginning of the supply chain,” said Heinloth in a press release.

The search for Easter eggs is part of Easter.

“And for many people, Easter is a nice occasion to meet up and give each other small gifts.

According to Heinloth, if fairness in the Easter basket and on the common breakfast table is important to you, you should follow a few tips for sustainable gift-giving.

Heinloth: “Let’s use fair chocolate and support producers in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Different seals can be seen on the products, and everyone can find out what’s behind the white raw material seal and the black product seal on the “Fairtrade” website.”

The 'Fairtrade' system improves the working and living conditions of coffee producers through, among other things, a minimum price and a premium.

According to Heinloth, “the fair and sweet Easter season has begun” in many supermarkets and discounters.

Fairly traded products would connect consumers, companies and producer organizations, offer farmers better prices and ensure humane working conditions on plantations.

Heinloth cites “Fairtrade” coffee as an example (“as a nice souvenir or freshly brewed at the coffee table”).

Climate change is a major challenge for coffee producers.

The appearance of certain pests and diseases is promoted by the increase in temperature.

“Coffee rust is currently plaguing many regions of Latin America,” said the head of the steering group.

“The 'Fairtrade' system improves the working and living conditions of coffee producers through, among other things, a minimum price and a premium.

The coffee cooperatives are supported in adapting to the changed climatic conditions.”

Heinloth: “Just stop by the One World store in Wolfratshausen or Waldram and get advice.

Our two shops offer different types of coffee, including Wolfratshauser 'Fairtrade' coffee and other Easter souvenirs.” (cce)
