The new Siebenhütten-Alm in Wildbad Kreuth is nearing completion.

Thanks to the mild winter, construction work progressed quickly.

The restaurant is scheduled to open in early summer.

Wildbad Kreuth

– “The winter played into our hands,” says Josef Wolfgang Bogner.

He sounds audibly pleased that the construction of the alpine hut went so quickly and smoothly.

“It’s normally deep winter here until April,” says Bogner about the Almidyll.

Not so this year: the mild weather allowed the construction work to continue in February.

As a result, the external work on the new gastro hut is now almost complete.

Finally, the roof shingles were laid.

Monument protection is keeping an eye on the construction project in Siebenhütten

The fact that this winter had little snow was also a stroke of luck, as the start of the work was initially delayed.

The building permit from the district office was a long time coming.

It was only in August last year that the Bogner family and the Herzogliche Wildbad Kreuth family company as owners were able to start implementing their alpine pasture project.

Numerous specialist departments, including the Lower Monument Protection Authority with district architect Christian Boiger, had previously been involved in the planning.

After all, the Alpine ensemble in Siebenhütten is a monument that the public and the authorities keep a close eye on.

Now that the exterior work has almost been completed, the interior of the new alpine hut is now being worked on.

The character of the Siebenhütten ensemble should be preserved

In order to preserve the original character of the ensemble, the idea arose to rebuild one of the three formerly existing and now missing Siebenhütten alpine pastures based on the historical model and to accommodate the catering industry there in the future.

According to Bogner, Boiger stopped by Siebenhütten from time to time during the construction phase to get an idea of the work.

“It went hand in hand,” says Bogner about the interaction with the authorities.

Bogner, whose family has been running an alpine restaurant in Siebenhütten for 13 years now, but capitulated in the spring of 2022 because the old hut had become too small for the growing influx of visitors, is a trained carpenter and has been involved in many of the jobs himself.

Employees of the Ducal Family Society also helped on the construction site.

“We made sure we could do as much as possible ourselves,” reports Bogner.

Where necessary, local craft businesses were used.

Bogner promises: “The alpine character will be preserved”

Now that the exterior of the reconstructed alpine building is almost complete, the interior work is now continuing.

Bogner is confident that these can also be completed quickly.

Then nothing will stand in the way of reopening the popular excursion destination in Siebenhütten.

The operator promises that when it comes to the catering concept, his family will take up old times.

“There will be no gastronomy, the alpine character will be retained.” According to Bogner, the menu will only contain typical alpine dishes and drinks as well as cakes.

The aim is to continue to be open to hikers and cyclists seven days a week in the future.

“As long as we always have enough employees,” says Bogner.

The entertainment ends at around 5 p.m.

It will only be open during the summer season.
