The Germaine-Tillion high school in Castelnaudary (Aude) was the victim of a bomb threat on Tuesday March 26.
According to information from our colleagues at
La Dépêche du Midi
, a telephone call intercepted by a police station in the Paris region reported the presence of an explosive device inside the establishment, as well as an intrusion.
The town of Castelnaudary communicated early in the evening, specifying that
“the situation was under control”
and that the evacuation of buildings had begun.
The alert has also been lifted.
First evacuations
The 1,500 students were immediately confined inside the high school at the start of the afternoon, while some took refuge in neighboring businesses.
Fire crews took care of the very shocked and frightened students.
The mayor of Castelnaudary, Patrick Maugard, accompanied by his security deputy, went there to meet the parents who were kept at a distance.
A large gendarmerie force, dispatched from Limoux and Castelnaudary, is currently on the scene, while reinforcements from Bram and Narbonne are on their way to meticulously search the establishment.
