Jachenau is Bavaria's smallest municipality with its own administration.
In 2023 the population fell again.
There were more deaths than births.

– “We are becoming fewer and fewer.” Mayor Klaus Rauchberger made this statement at the most recent citizens’ meeting.
He stated that the population of Jachenau was only exactly 800.
Last year eight births were registered in the community.
They faced 18 deaths.

The town hall boss had other figures and data from the community ready.
According to Rauchberger, 35 girls and boys are currently attending the Jachenau kindergarten.
Rauchberger found it a “shame” that five Jachenau children were looked after in facilities in Lenggries, because: “We have a wonderful kindergarten in Jachenau and there would be enough space.”
In the Ferdinand Feldigl School, class 1/2 currently has 21 children, and class 3/4 has 18 girls and boys.
30 Jachenauer go to the Lenggrieser middle school, two attend the M-Zug in Gaißach.
19 young Jachenau girls are currently commuting to the Hohenburg schools.
Eleven of them go to secondary school and eight to high school.
28 Jachenauers go to secondary schools in Bad Tölz: five go to the Gabriel-von-Seidl-Gymnasium, 23 to the state secondary school.
As reported, from the next school year boys will also have access to Hohenburg schools - which could be a good option for the Jachenauers.
Tourism: Slight plus in Jachenau
14 asylum seekers are currently accommodated in Jachenau.
According to Rauchberger, there would be space for up to 23 people.
“At full occupancy, we are above our quota,” said the town hall boss.

In the tourism sector, Rauchberger reported an increase of two percent for 2023 compared to the previous year.
36,713 overnight stays were counted.
The length of stay of guests fell from 5.4 to an average of 5.2 days.
The balance of the cross-country skiing season was poor.
In 2023, the municipality only collected 768 euros in cross-country ski trail fees - compared to 45,022 euros in the previous year.
In 2021 it was even 59,750 euros, as shown by the budget figures presented by treasurer Felix Kellner.

This is how much the community of Jachenau collects in parking fees
According to Kellners, income from parking fees also fell.
The parking machines on the south bank of Walchensee generated 138,372 euros, and another 73,266 euros from the hiking parking spaces in the village.
In 2022 these numbers were still 153,048 and 101,711 euros.
In 2021, which was still characterized by the rush of excursionists during the Corona period, hikers even threw 153,980 euros into the parking machines in the village.
According to Kellner, the municipality's debt amounted to around 1.4 million euros at the end of 2023.
This results in a per capita debt of 1,752 euros.

Chiemsee with around 230 inhabitants and Balderschwang with 400 inhabitants are at the top.
However, it is true that Jachenau is Bavaria's smallest municipality with independent administration, while Chiemsee and Balderschwang are each part of an administrative community.
