A man in his sixties was indicted on the night of Monday to Tuesday for the murder of his 88-year-old mother, the Bastia prosecutor told AFP, confirming information from France 3 Corse Viastella .
The body of this woman was discovered on Sunday afternoon at her home in Prunelli-di-Fiumorbo (Haute-Corse) and an investigation “for intentional homicide” was immediately opened.
It led to the placement “in police custody” of his son who “denies the facts”, specified Jean-Philippe Navarre, public prosecutor of Bastia.
“The victim's son was referred to the public prosecutor's office on Monday as part of the opening of a judicial investigation into the charge of murder in his ascendant,” said the prosecutor.
He was then indicted for the same charge and placed in pre-trial detention overnight.
A “bloody hammer” in the suspect’s car
The autopsy, scheduled for Tuesday, should make it possible to precisely establish the causes of death.
According to a source close to the investigation, the victim was violently attacked and her son denies this matricide despite the discovery of a “bloody hammer” in his vehicle.
Corse-Matin initially claimed that the octogenarian had been shot and killed.
In mid-February, a man had already been indicted for “murder of an ascendant” after admitting to having fatally injured his 86-year-old mother with a knife in Antisanti (Haute-Corse), a village located 40 km from Prunelli-di -Fiumorbo.
