In the dispute over usage fees for clubs in the Piorama, the Penzberg Oberland Swimming Association (SGO) sent an open letter including a list of questions to the city and the municipal utilities.

In it, the association takes up statements from Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) in which he promises subsidies and at the same time refers to budget advice.

Penzberg - The swimming club asks why it takes so long to decide whether the city supports the non-profit organization.

It has been known since last September “that the association cannot afford the high fees,” says the letter from board members Wolfgang Kling, Jakob Schachtschneider and Ingo Krüger.

They say that the association is “happy to pay moderate fees for the use of the Piorama”.

However, they are “not prepared to increase membership fees several times over in order to be able to pay the required fees”.

“From the beginning there was only a vague prospect of possible funding.”

As reported, the dispute was sparked by the fees for clubs, which are 100 euros per lane and hour.

The club calculates that this would amount to around 2,400 euros per week and over 100,000 euros per year, with an annual club budget of around 15,000 euros.

You can't sign a contract that requires you to pay more than 100,000 euros per year, while the city "only vaguely held out the prospect of possible funding from the start."

If this were to be eliminated completely or were small, the general meeting would not grant the board of directors any discharge.

“The board would be liable for the loss,” said the three board members.

They also explain that social aspects are important to the association and that they want to enable everyone to become a member.

“We are happy to continue teaching children and young people from Penzberg and the surrounding area to swim on a voluntary basis, but not under unacceptable conditions,” it continues.

In response to Korpan's statement that the city would "definitely" subsidize the water rescue service, which also provides services at the city's bathing areas, the board trio explained that "the association has also provided supervisors in the wave pool, is active in swimming lessons at primary schools and therefore also has one Member source for the water rescue service”.

In the letter, the club also asks, for example, how the fee is compatible with the goal of promoting sport, how high the utilization of the sports pool is, how it is ensured that training for private individuals is not arbitrarily prohibited and what funding is available for gave rise to the construction of the Piorama.
