The mayors of Ris-Orangis and Grigny (Essonne) have been waiting for this news for years.
It's now official.
In a letter sent on February 8 to elected officials as well as to the Essonne prefecture, Antargaz announced the cessation within three months of the activity of its liquefied gas depot, classified Seveso 2 “high threshold”.
Opened in 1964, it is the largest gas storage site in Île-de-France.
Straddling the two communes, it extends over 3.6 ha along the Seine, the N 7 and the RER D lines.
“There is a real risk of explosion.
Maintaining this deposit is an aberration ecologically, economically and for the safety of local residents.
Without forgetting the tens of thousands of users who use line D of the RER,” have been warning the two municipalities for years who have continued to ask for the departure of this activity.
We remember the explosion at the AZF factory in September 2021 which caused the death of thirty people and devastated the southern districts of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne).
Or, more recently, the fire which struck the Lubrizol site in Rouen (Seine-Maritime).
