The Isen market town council has approved the hedge nature trail on Pensionerweg.

The “grant” from residents against the OVV project has worn off.

Isen

– The local beautification and horticultural association (OVV) Isen would like to turn the pensioner path below Gmain into a hedge nature trail.

Now chairman Thomas Hiemer presented the district's unique project to the Isen market town council in order to have it approved by the committee, and also talked about a discussion with residents.

“The Pensionerweg is already a small local recreation area here in Isen,” said Hiemer.

“There is a lot of biodiversity there, but there are a few trees and bushes missing that actually belong in the landscape here.” That’s why the association’s idea was: “If you start planting something there, why should you?” “Don’t explain it right away?”

The plan is to supplement the path educationally - with information about which plants and animals live there and what ecological significance they have.

The plants that are added to the pensioner path are exclusively local and not exotic species, which is also important for the insects and birds there.

There will then be wooden display boards along the path with a lid with the inscription: “What am I?” Information about the plants and animals is hidden under the lid.

“So that we also have an interactive element and you have to puzzle,” Hiemer explained to the council.

A chime is also planned: “We want to hang or screw different types of wood – we don’t yet know exactly how we will do it.” With a mallet you can find out what the respective wood sounds like.

Dice with pictures on them are intended to serve as a memory game in which you can match a flower with the appropriate leaf and bark.

The OVV wants to address not only the ecological but also the cultural significance of the pensioner route.

“We want to point out that this was the former Thann-Matzbach-Haag railway line,” emphasized Hiemer.

And art should also decorate the pensioners' path: In addition to the educational elements distributed along the path, a wooden statue by the Oberdingen wood sculptor Wolfgang Fritz will be installed.

The artist is making a work available to the OVV, which is currently still in Erding.

“It’s called meander because the serpentine lines are reminiscent of a meandering river,” said Hiemer.

Walkers will be able to rest on a bench with a view of the forest on both sides and of the work of art, which will then be almost opposite the tree of life at the cemetery.

The project should not incur any costs for the community; the OVV itself bears these costs, the chairman emphasized: “We want to finance our hedge nature trail by generating sponsorships.” A private person or a company can sponsor a tree or bush for a fee take over over three years.

The association is also financed through one-off donations and the sale of T-shirts.

“I think it’s a great thing,” praised Manuela Maier (Greens).

Michael Betz (FW) was also enthusiastic about the many native plant species: “Even as an old hand, you can still learn something, not just the children.”

Erhard Aicher (CSU) suggested arranging a conversation once a year between the OVV, the community and residents - and in doing so addressed a topic that had already occupied the community and the association.

Hiemer thought Aicher's suggestion was a great idea and explained: “We had a little discussion with the residents.

It was about the adjacent agricultural land and the fact that the birch trees hang quite far in.”

“We stung a hornet’s nest with the project without knowing what we were doing,” said the OVV boss.

This “grant”, which was more against the community, was resolved in a conversation in February.

“People are actually really excited about the project,” said Hiemer.

They were concerned about work when they heard that trees were being planted there.

The market town council unanimously approved the project and stated that an annual discussion should take place with the community, OVV and residents.
