Schlager legend Roland Kaiser inspires countless fans with his songs, but now the singer has made critical comments about his own music industry.
Ideal world in Schlager?
Kaiser has a completely different opinion.
Berlin – Without Roland Kaiser (71), the Schlager world would be hard to imagine: He always captivates his fans with songs like “Why didn’t you say no” or “Santa Maria”.
The 71-year-old is also known for his honest manner off stage.
Now he spoke clearly about the hit scene in “Polak’s Schlagertalk” – “We don’t have a reflected zeitgeist in Schlager.”
Pop singer Roland Kaiser expresses critical words about the pop scene
Roland Kaiser recently made an emotional declaration of love to his wife Silvia (61), and his songs are also full of emotions.
But despite his ongoing success, he is critical of all pop music.
In an interview with Oliver Polak (47) in the podcast “Polak's Schlagertalk”, he spoke quite openly and emphasized: “The hit was much closer to reality in the 50s and 60s than it is today.
“The spirit of the times was reflected back then.”
He also added: “The hit from before was made more cleverly.
Smarter.
Even if they were more humorous, they were more clever.” He then mentioned the catchy tune “Pigalle (The Great Mousetrap)” by pop singers Heinz Gietz (1924–1989) and Hans Bradtke (1920–1997).
The lyrics to the successful song were in fact socially critical, as they contained humorous swipes at the emerging desire to travel abroad.
By the way: The sung place has been considered a Parisian entertainment district since the beginning of the 20th century.
Why does Roland Kaiser always wear a suit?
The suit has long since become Roland Kaiser's trademark.
He consciously chose this type of clothing.
As he revealed in the WDR interview, there was a director in his past who had all the artists appear on the main podium before the broadcast and then made comments about the clothing.
To resist him, he slipped straight into the suit.
Roland Kaiser: Musical appeal against hatred
And Kaiser also addresses political topics in his songs, as he continued in the podcast: “I also processed topics in my songs.
Songs that pick up on the zeitgeist and say that in critical phases we need confidence in order to get out of the matter." For example, with his song "Confidence" he made an "appeal against hatred and against all anti-human traits," as he said in an interview with Stern.de emphasized.

But it wasn't just Roland Kaiser who found clear words about the pop world, singer Wencky Myhre also made a pop confession: She no longer understands her own songs.
