The head of Hamas' political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, is expected to fly to Tehran for meetings with Iranian officials, Iran's state television reported today (Tuesday).
Haniyeh's trip comes after yesterday the UN Security Council adopted a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Ramadan, and the immediate and unconditional release of all the abductees. 14 countries voted in favor of the resolution - the US abstained and did not veto.

Following the US decision not to veto, the Prime Minister's Office announced that Netanyahu decided not to send the Israeli delegation to the US.
The bureau's announcement stated: "The US did not veto the new text that calls for a cease-fire without the condition of releasing the abductees.
This is a clear retreat from the consistent position of the US in the Security Council since the beginning of the war."
Netanyahu's office emphasized that "this withdrawal hurts both the war effort and the effort to free the hostages, because it gives Hamas hope that international pressure will allow them to accept a ceasefire without releasing our hostages. Prime Minister Netanyahu made it clear last night that if the US withdraws from its principled position, he will not send the delegation Israel to the USA. In light of the change in the American position, Netanyahu decided that the delegation would not go."
