A week after the American announcement, the IDF confirmed the death of one of Hamas' most important figures.
The Israeli army assured Tuesday that it had “eliminated” the number 2 of the armed wing of the Palestinian movement, Marwan Issa, in a strike in Gaza.
Marwan Issa, “one of the organizers of the October 7 massacre,” was “eliminated in a strike that we carried out two weeks ago,” announced army spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, during a press conference, confirming the information released by the White House on March 18.
This official of the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamist movement was “eliminated in a complex and precise strike by the air force, on the basis of intelligence from the army and Shin Beth”, domestic intelligence, said he added.
Top official killed in Gaza
This is the highest-ranking official in the Palestinian movement killed by the Israeli army in Gaza since the start of the war.
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan previously announced his death during a press conference.
The IDF had previously reported an airstrike "in the center of the Gaza Strip, near Nuseirat", against an "underground base", which was "used by two senior leaders of the organization", including the deputy of Mohammed Deif, the leader of the al-Qassam brigades.
