Highlights: Landlord as refugee helper. “We hardly know where they can stay,” says Dr. Georg Strasser from Breitbrunn. He has been arranging housing for a year via “raumbaren.net” – successfully. In just one year, private living space was provided for 85 refugees for whom a container village would otherwise have had to be built. A total of 35 units, from rooms to houses. This was made possible by “RAumbaren’s” portal. Anyone who has empty living space can find out about experiences, tenancy law, housing and citizens’ benefit.

Accommodating refugees is a major challenge.

“We hardly know where they can stay,” says Dr.

Georg Strasser from Breitbrunn.

Breitbrunn

– In just one year, private living space was provided for 85 refugees for whom a container village would otherwise have had to be built.

A total of 35 units, from rooms to houses.

This was made possible by “raumbaren.net”.

As reported, the portal was created last year from an initiative by volunteer refugee helpers in the Starnberg district from Herrsching and Tutzing.

One of them is Dr.

George Strasser.

As reported, the former management consultant has been involved in refugee aid and in the Herrsching helper group since 2015.

Most recently, he was concerned about the high number of incorrect occupancies in the existing refugee accommodation, i.e. refugees who have a permanent right to stay but cannot find a place in the tense rental housing market.

People from Ukraine are also among them.

After just the first four months, he had already proven that it was possible by successfully brokering 14 apartments.

“There are always vacancies, houses and apartments that are not being used because the owners have died or the inheritance has not yet been settled - or renovation is currently not possible.

Such living space rarely comes onto the rental market,” says Strasser.

This is where the idea of “raumbaren.net” comes in.

“Authorities and municipalities do not rent such space – not even for homeless people,” says Strasser.

However, this living space could be of great use for refugees.

“Freedom and strength also grow where the bathroom has not been modernized.

It's enough if the walls are your own.

They could start families, find work, raise children, make contributions to our society,” says Strasser.

In addition, municipalities that have to accommodate new refugees would be relieved.

Places in shared accommodation would become available.

And the landlord could use the income to save on renovation costs, for example.

Strasser carried out the project together with Dr.

Peter Frey from Tutzing was founded.

When the influx of refugees began, they started working together on the topic of job placement.

“Work and living are the core areas,” says Strasser.

“If that fits, we’ve done it.

Then integration can no longer be stopped.” The new project “raumbaren.net” is very similar to job placement.

It is anchored in the Herrschinger association “We can do it”.

“They are legally responsible,” explains Strasser.

“We need refugees as fellow citizens, companions and contemporaries, not least in our labor market.

Without them our economy will go down the drain.

The grandchildren of the 25-year-old refugees whose parents were born here will start working in 45 years.

They pay the pension for our daughters and sons, who will then be 65 and 70." That's why he asks for your help: Anyone who has empty living space can find out about experiences, tenancy law, housing and citizens' benefit at raumbaren.net - or directly at Dr.

Georg Strasser by email at g.strasser@sailbeautiful.com or on 01 51/ 11 50 30 65.
