The Bach Choir & Orchestra Fürstenfeldbruck invite you to a musical monumental work on Good Friday, March 29th, in the city hall of the event forum.

Fürstenfeldbruck – Under the direction of Gerd Guglhör, 170 participants perform the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Two choirs, two orchestras and six soloists tell the story of Jesus' suffering and death, partly lyrically and partly dramatically.

Two choirs?

Two orchestras?

In fact, the Bach choir is divided into two groups for the eight-part singing, even if this will not be visible at first glance on stage, as press spokeswoman Catherine von der Nahmer explains.

But if you look closely, you will see that there are four voices on the left and four voices on the right.

The ninth voice in the first large choral movement of the work is 20 children from the Kauferinger children's and youth choir DoReMi.

The orchestra is also divided into two halves, supplemented by wind soloists who were specially hired.

Because the Bruck Bach Orchestra is actually a pure string ensemble.

Baroque specialists

The fact that the wind players have to be baroque specialists and are fully booked for years during the Easter period didn't make the preparations any easier.

And so it took four years to get started - also because of Corona - and we are now even more looking forward to the concert, as von der Nahmer says.

Lasting almost three hours, the St. Matthew Passion - based on chapters 26 and 27 of the Gospel of the same name - is one of the most extensive of all church compositions and is now an integral part of Holy Week in many countries.

The music is characterized by deep emotionality.

It conveys sadness, comfort, redemption and humanity.

The work, which uses a variety of tonal means, is considered a symbol of the reconciling power of music.

The solo parts are taken by Steffen Kruse (evangelist), Niklas Mallmann (Jesus), Roswitha Schmelzl (soprano), Katharina Guglhör (alto), Christian Zenker (tenor) and Jakob Kreß (bass).

Steffen Kruse has the most strenuous part.

He is most often used as the narrator of the story and has to convey the events of the Passion with appropriate theatricality.

The choir is also heavily challenged with 78 numbers.

Many succinct, quick throw-ins require a high degree of concentration and perfect timing.

And it also takes a bit of strength - each member stands on stage with 300 pages of music.

The

Bach Choir & Orchestra will perform the St. Matthew Passion on Friday, March 29th at 7 p.m. in the Stadtsaal of the event forum.

Tickets for 39, 31 and 21 euros are available on the website www.bco-ffb.de, Reservix, the Fürstenfeld ticket service and at the box office (plus one euro).
