The operation, called Fare Play, will deploy hundreds of agents to stations
to combat fare evasion
and other crimes, thereby increasing security in New York's transportation system.
The incident occurred a few blocks from where authorities detailed their plans to reinforce user security through a greater police presence in subway stations and other measures.
