The change to the new traffic routing at Tutzinger-Hof-Platz worked without any problems, according to the Weilheim road construction department.

Only pedestrians had certain problems at Starnberg's largest intersection on Monday.

Starnberg - Streets in five directions, vehicles of all kinds and pedestrians crossing on every corner: there is a lot going on at Starnberg's largest intersection anyway.

On Monday, the hidden object picture at Tutzinger-Hof-Platz was enriched by a few more facets - warning beacons, solid yellow lines, cables above the road, makeshift traffic lights and a trailer with a large LED display.

The Weilheim State Building Authority started a nine-week test phase of traffic routing as it should be during the construction period of the B 2 tunnel.

After day one of the test setup, those responsible were already satisfied: “The changeover went smoothly,” said Jacob Eberle from the building authority to Merkur.

“Consistently positive” was the conclusion from Christian Blümig from the Starnberg police.

According to Eberle, the exceptions could be counted on one hand: drivers who turned half-left from Wittelsbacherstrasse onto Hanfelder Strasse - which is no longer permitted.

Just like coming from Münchner Straße onto Josef-Jägerhuber-Straße.

How strong the power of habit is was shown by the behavior of pedestrians who wanted to cross the B2.

“At one point there were probably ten people standing on the traffic island, but none of them had the idea to press the button,” reported Eberle.

Logical: Until now you didn't have to do that, the pedestrian traffic light automatically turned green.

In the future, manual switching is intended to prevent vehicle traffic from coming to a standstill, even if no pedestrians want to cross the street.

However, the building authority does not want to cause too much confusion: the push function has been reversed for the time being.

Start with a small technical complication

There was a small technical complication on Monday morning: a pallet truck didn't work, which meant the covers on some of the new traffic lights couldn't be removed.

A side note from the perspective of those responsible.

According to Eberle, they want to run the first phase of the test for “at least two weeks”.

Then the situation gets worse.

Turning from the direction of the motorway onto the inner Leutstettener Straße (in front of McDonald's) will be prevented and one day also the crossing of Münchner Straße from the outer Leutstettener Straße onto the inner one.

The building authority will only gradually announce details of the schedule.

Werner Schmid from the Society for Economic and Tourism Promotion (gwt) saw the change as “relatively smooth” from the perspective of the tourist information office, which is located directly on Tutzinger-Hof-Platz.

Schmid had to smile a little about the “traffic light cemetery in front of our entrance”.

All old traffic lights were dismantled as part of the test setup.

There was a certain amount of confusion at first, but there were no honking concerts.

On the first day of the test, the police did not specifically check whether everyone was driving correctly.

This will only be planned in the future if there is more evidence of it, said Christian Blümig.

However, the patrols have clear instructions to complain about wrong turns.

Impact on bus traffic: Six routes affected

The tunnel test also has an impact on bus traffic.

The affected city bus lines 901, 902, 903, 909 and the express bus lines X900, .

The stop on Wittelsbacherstrasse (opposite the Kreissparkasse) will continue to be served normally by city buses, explained district office spokesman Stefan Diebl when asked.

And he reported: “There will then be a major timetable change for phases two and three, as the turning relationships from the B 2 into the inner Leutstettener Straße will then also be affected.”

By the way, anyone who looks up the current traffic situation on the state portal www.bayerninfo.de had to be surprised, at least on Monday.

It said that turning right from Wittelsbacherstrasse was not possible.

But the left is correct.

There was also talk at times of a maximum permissible speed of 80 km/h.

Inner town.
