Indoor palms immediately make any room green and homely.

Many species are also quite easy to care for if you follow a few principles.

They are easy to care for and exude an exotic flair: palm trees have long been popular houseplants.

We present you the nine most beautiful examples that enrich every living room, bedroom and even light-flooded bathroom.

Nine indoor palms from large to manageable

Strictly speaking, probably the most well-known indoor palms are not palms at all: Yucca and dragon tree belong to the asparagus family.

Therefore, if you insist on real palm trees, consider these nine species:

Mountain palm

This mini palm only grows to a meter high and thrives in sunny to partially shaded areas.

She just doesn't like bright sunlight that much.

But she is allowed outside in the summer.

The mountain palm tolerates tap water well, even hard water.

On the other hand, dry heating air is not good for you.

So spray her regularly or give her a shower.

However, avoid standing water in the saucer.

Date palm

The date palm is quite easy to care for and is native to many places around the world.

It can withstand sun, wind and weather in the summer outdoors.

It needs space in the apartment - when the air in the room is humid, it spreads its fronds.

Palm trees of various species are popular houseplants.

Bottle palm

The plant with the interesting bottle-shaped trunk likes it warm and is best left in the living room or winter garden all year round.

She doesn't like unheated rooms in the cold season.

Water young plants as often as possible – they like it moist.

In older specimens, the soil can dry out from time to time and then be watered properly again.

If cared for well, the bottle palm can grow up to three meters high.

But don't worry: it grows very slowly.

Golden fruit palm

This sunny companion grows from several trunks and likes it warm and bright. The soil should always be moist, which is why the golden fruit palm likes hydroponics.

Yellow leaves and bark are a good sign: this is where its name comes from.

Hemp palm

The hemp palm is not a houseplant, but prefers to be kept outside in a warm and wind-protected place.

It can also withstand cold times there.

However, it should be protected in the depths of winter - hard frost is too much for it.

To do this, cover the soil around the trunk with mulch, pine branches or straw.

Tie the crown together loosely so that you can then cover it and the trunk with a protective fleece.

Kentia palm

Unusually for a palm tree, the Kentia likes it rather cool and shady - preferably up to 20 degrees.

Don't water too frequently.

It cannot tolerate waterlogging and the trunk turns brown.

The Kentia can grow up to three meters high.

But it will take a very long time to get there.

Coconut palm

The palm tree that grows from coconuts lines beaches in the wild and also likes it sunny and humid indoors.

Spray the coconut palm with water daily.

Young palm trees, which can be very tall, should be repotted immediately.

The plant needs space for its roots.

In addition, it needs to be protected from the sun a little at the beginning.

Priest palm

This palm needs space, otherwise it becomes unpleasant: the priest palm produces long, pointed leaves.

It is therefore only suitable as a houseplant for large rooms.

The priest palm is hardy and can also overwinter outside in a pot.

Do not water this palm tree too often.

It comes from the dry southern states of the USA and does not tolerate too much moisture.

Stick palm

This umbrella tree, also known as a bamboo palm, is perfect for beginners: it is easy to care for and robust.

She likes shady places and can also cope with dark corners.

If it is too bright, its leaves turn yellow.

Spray them regularly even in winter.

This is what you need to pay attention to when caring for palm trees as houseplants

Most indoor palms are quite easy to care for.

However, you should keep a few principles in mind:

  • In nature, palm trees usually grow into huge trees.

Accordingly, they want a large pot.

  • Most palm trees need light, but not direct sun.

  • Some like it constantly moist, others dry - most of them have one thing in common: they want to be sprayed regularly or daily with water that is not too hard.

  • If young fronds turn brown, the tree is not receiving enough water.

Yellow leaves, on the other hand, can be an indication of too much moisture.

  • Pests quickly nest in the warm, moist leaves.

    So check your palm regularly.

Fresh air helps and also spraying the plant often.

Another trick: Palm trees should shower every now and then to keep them healthy.

  • Many palm species prefer acidic soil.

Therefore, in the warm months, use plant fertilizer (promotional link) about every week or two, ideally special fertilizer for palm trees.

Coffee grounds also enrich the earth.
