The Easter holidays are the perfect time for families to go on a nice trip with their little ones - and you don't have to travel too far away.

This year Easter Sunday falls on March 31st and is therefore taking place a little earlier.

But even if the weather in Germany is still a bit cool, there are plenty of activities on offer for the whole family.

If you haven't planned anything for the holidays yet, you can get inspiration from the following excursion tips.

Easter egg hunt: fun for young and old

The obligatory Easter egg hunt can take place wonderfully outdoors when the sun is shining.

If you don't have your own garden, you can take part in various offers in the area.

How about, for example, an Easter egg hunt in the monkey and bird park in Eckenhagen, about an hour's drive from Cologne?

From March 29th to April 1st between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., children can look for colorful Easter eggs on the park grounds every day.

Children will also be surprised by the Easter Bunny at the Nordhorn Zoo in Lower Saxony: the search for the eggs will begin here on March 31st at 9 a.m.

Explore crafts at Easter markets

On the weekends before Easter, numerous Easter markets take place all over Germany.

One of the most famous is the Leipzig Easter market, which will take place from April 5th to 10th in 2024 (except on Good Friday).

Jugglers, comedians and musicians provide entertainment and various stands offer numerous delicacies to delight the palate.

Children in particular will be thrilled by the hand-operated rides such as the historic Ferris wheel.

Also worth mentioning is the International Easter Egg Market in Schwetzingen Castle in Baden-Württemberg.

On March 2nd and 3rd, 2024, regional and international artists will present imaginatively designed Easter eggs, including blown-out quail eggs or ostrich eggs, which are sure to amaze young and old.

Further up in the north of Germany, the Spreewaldmuseum Lübbenau invites numerous showmen from Brandenburg, Saxony and Berlin to the Easter egg fair.

On March 2nd and 3rd, families can not only look at the artistically decorated Easter eggs, but also take part in hands-on activities.

At the Lehde open-air museum near Lübbenau, visitors can even decorate the Easter eggs themselves from March 29th to 31st.

Spend Easter days in the amusement park

Many theme parks are open over the Easter holidays and offer special events and promotions for families.

At Europa-Park in Rust, which starts the new season on March 23rd, guests can expect various Easter activities, such as the Easter village in the French themed area on Easter weekend, or the visit of the cartoonist Peter Gayman, who is on both holidays for one Painting and drawing activities with the children are available.

But it doesn't necessarily have to be Europa-Park: the Playmobil Funpark in Zirndorf or Legoland in Günzburg also open their doors on the holidays.
