Patience, precision and creativity: artist Anna Hössle needs all of these in her daily work.
The woman from Wolfratshausen makes lampshades out of Japanese paper.
Wolfratshausen – Anna Hössle is currently taming a large sheet of sturdy paper in her workshop in the rear building of the Schwankl-Eck that keeps trying to curl up.
She places the edges and corners exactly on top of each other and smoothes the fold into the sheet with the edge of her hand.
The result is an artistic lampshade that rotates like a shell house and is laid out in facet folds like a crystal.
Anna Hössle's lamps and mobiles are airy works of art made of fine paper.
“The lens,” she says, is her best seller among the lights.

Bavarian television also became aware of the uniqueness of Hössle's paper craft and recently published a film portrait of the Wolfratshausen artist as part of the series “Between Spessart and Karwendel”.
The film shows how accurately Hössle has to work so that the paper lampshades meet her high standards of accuracy and the mobiles move optimally in the breeze.
“You see, the smallest mistake is immediately noticeable.” She points to a lampshade that hangs illuminated from the ceiling and is not at the exact distance in one place in the decor.

Hössle works with white, dyed or oiled Japanese paper.
The lens-shaped lamp, which consists of two opposing shades and almost looks a bit like a UFO in the sky, has been selling best for many years, says the artist.
She decorates the umbrellas with hole perforations, cuts and layers.
There are recurring patterns and motifs, modeled on shapes from nature, such as an elderberry umbel or the bodies of caterpillars and insects.
“I am fascinated by the play with light and the softness and transparency of the paper.”

The former stables were the parents' workshops.
“We children were often there and were allowed to help.” From 1975 to 1978, Hössle completed art bookbinding training in Ried im Innkreis in Austria.
“We learned difficult techniques for working with parchment and leather,” she says.

After completing his training, Hössle worked with a friend in a workshop in Munich.
The woman from Wolfratshausen remembers: “Our first order was paste paper soaked in ox blood for a restorer.
It’s supposed to keep the bugs away.” The paper artist soon specialized in the development of special light objects.
The artist has the necessary patience, precision and creativity to turn the fine paper into unique works of art made of light, air and lightness.
