Highlights: Work permit granted: Asylum seeker returns to school as caretaker – “A real win”. Mansor Cisse, known as Mani, born in 1976, comes from Senegal and has been living in the asylum accommodation in Gröbenried for ten years. “I enjoy working in the caretaker team,” he says now. The new situation was made possible by the law introducing an opportunity residence right, which came into force at the end of 2022. Asylum seeker Mansor Cisse from Gröbenried is finally allowed to work again.

Everyone at Bergkirchen elementary and middle school is happy.

Bergkirchen – Mansor Cisse, known as Mani, born in 1976, comes from Senegal and has been living in the asylum accommodation in Gröbenried for ten years.

He is very happy because he can work again.

He is beaming because he is now part of the caretaker team at the Bergkirchen elementary and middle school, where he is needed.

Years ago he worked on the building yard to the great satisfaction of the community.

He was also highly valued by his colleagues there.

Then his work permit was revoked (we reported).

This was followed by short-term employment with an hourly wage of 85 cents and then the work permit was revoked again.

The asylum seeker's situation seemed hopeless.

“I’m desperate,” he said at the time.

“I have arrived and am accepted.

“I enjoy working in the caretaker team,” he says now.

You can see that in his face.

“There are only positive things to report”: The caretaker team is happy about Cisse’s return

Office manager Siegfried Ketterl, who has supported Cisse over the years, is pleased that the community was finally able to offer him a job again.

“Mani is employed as normal and of course receives the collectively agreed wage for his work,” adds Mayor Robert Axtner.

“In the short time that Mansor has been with us, there are only positive things to say about him.

Mansor is a very humble, hardworking and grateful colleague.

He is extremely committed and enthusiastic about learning.

A colleague and employee that you would want,” reports Doris Schönberger, long-time caretaker at the school.

“His friendly nature and motivation make it easy for him and us to work together very well.

In short – a real win for our team!”

Asylum seeker receives work permit – opportunity residence law provides basis

The new situation was made possible by the law introducing an opportunity residence right, which came into force at the end of 2022.

After that, those who have been tolerated for a long time can have the opportunity to fulfill the necessary requirements for a right to remain with an 18-month residence permit, including “securing a livelihood and clarifying their identity,” as the Federal Ministry of the Interior explains.

Anyone who has been in Germany for five years as of October 31, 2022, has not committed any significant criminal offenses and is committed to the free democratic basic order will benefit from this law.
