The final stop of the S7 in Wolfratshausen is not a pretty sight for travelers.

A woman from Königsdorf complains about the “neglect” of the S-Bahn station – according to the town hall boss, the city’s hands are tied.

Wolfratshausen – The S-Bahn station is definitely not one of the sights of the international rafting town.

In an email to our editorial team, Christiane Rauert complains about what she sees as the increasing “neglect” of the terminus.

The woman from Königsdorf, who says she has been using the S7 for 15 years, appeals not only to Deutsche Bahn (DB), but also to the city, to maintain the station.

When asked by our newspaper, town hall boss Klaus Heilinglechner explains that the city's hands are tied - but they are still doing everything they can to persuade DB to stop ignoring its property.

“Terrifying and disgusting”: Strong criticism of the “garbage-filled” S-Bahn station in Upper Bavaria

The sight of the “heavily littered tracks,” says Rauert, “shocks me.”

How could it be that in a city that is the location for the ARD evening series “Hubert ohne Staller” and that is in a “popular holiday region”, “no one obviously cares about the neglect?” The situation is “terrifying and disgusting” , writes the woman from Königsdorf.

According to Rauert, the Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Leipzig, for example, demonstrate that train stations “can be well-maintained and clean”.

“Our problem is that the S-Bahn station is not an urban area,” explains the mayor of Wolfratshausen.

De jure, the city is not allowed to play the clean-cut man – “although the railway would probably take note of this with goodwill”.

In addition, in this case, the citizen would pay for the cleanup work - and not the property owner responsible for it.

No, the S-Bahn station is not a showpiece.

Wolfratshausen's mayor Klaus Heilinglechner

Heilinglechner, who often travels by train himself, is familiar with the symptoms.

When he returns to his hometown on the S7, he often thinks to himself at the less than idyllic final stop: “I hope no one recognizes me.” The city administration repeatedly insists on improving the situation at the DB, but in the dense network of the federally owned giant company it is a problem “Very difficult undertaking” to find the responsible contact person.

“And when we finally identify it, it starts all over again a few weeks later because the person previously responsible has moved internally to another position.” He, Heilinglechner, assumed that the DB had outsourced individual areas from the company In order, among other things, to “ensure better accessibility” of the respective specialist department.

However, that was a fallacy.

Public toilet facilities have been closed since November 2023

The communication between DB and town hall is suboptimal.

An example: Before the McDonald's branch closed on November 23rd last year, “we didn't even receive a notice,” the mayor regrets.

Not to be forgotten: Since the fast food outlet closed, the only public toilet facility at the train station has been locked.

“We are checking whether we can reopen the toilet,” a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn told our newspaper in November when asked.

Obviously the test is immensely time-consuming.

According to the head of the town hall, the city is also doing a lot when it comes to toilet facilities.

A Wolfratshauser who doesn't want to read his name in the newspaper is of the opinion: “Back when McDonald's was still here, everything was littered on a large scale.

Now the waste is more likely to be found on the side track.” Without “wanting to offend anyone,” the 60-year-old said: “It looks as if the garbage is being swept out of the train onto the tracks.

In any case, it’s not nice.” Unfortunately, the first impression that S7 passengers would get of Wolfratshausen is not a positive one.

When asked by our newspaper, Bahn asks for patience

“No, the S-Bahn station is not a showpiece,” admits Mayor Klaus Heilinglechner.

He asserts that the city is “doing everything it can.”

It would presumably be helpful “if citizens addressed their complaints directly to the owner of the property.”

The railway responded to our newspaper's current inquiry by asking for patience.

The desired information “must first be researched by the responsible colleagues,” said a DB spokesman.

“Due to holidays, this may take a little longer than usual.” (cce)
